Of Foreign Descent ...

The Hungarian or Gray Partridge is an introduced species here in Saskatchewan.  Originally set free to amuse hunters.

I welcome these small round birds to my yard.  They have been a source of much amusement.  They move "as one" ... one does something and they all follow suit.  Most enjoyable to watch!  They possess a propensity for plopping down into any and all depressions in the snow and hunkering down for a spell.

Given that this has been a very looooooooooooooooooong winter with waaaaaaaaaaaay too much snow, they offer the miracle of life in such arduous conditions.

We started out the winter with 6 and amazingly, still have 6 coming every day to clean up what the birds spill onto the ground.
